Unchanged NZ bowl in dead rubber

The sun was out at Hambantota for a timely start and a relieved Ross Taylor won the toss for a change and opted to bowl first. The pitch was the same used for the previous one-dayer and the fast bowlers were expected to enjoy some early seam movement. Taylor expected it to rain later in the evening and hence wanted to protect his bowlers from the wet ball.
New Zealand named an unchanged side, while Sri Lanka announced two changes. The seamer Nuwan Kulasekara and the left-arm spinner Rangana Herath were rested, with the series already won by the hosts. Akila Dananjaya, the spinner who debuted in the World Twenty20, was given his maiden ODI cap, while Shaminda Eranga was the other replacement.
